Purdue Volunteers at CPZ
Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities with the Columbian Park Zoo. Volunteers and Docents provide valuable support and assistance to staff and have an integral role in the success of our many special events. You must be 18 years or older to apply. Zoo volunteers must submit an application and attend an orientation session before volunteering.

Teens ages 14-17 that are interested in volunteering should check out our Zoo Teen Program!

Upcoming Volunteer Orientation Dates

Fall 2016 Sessions:
  • Saturday, September 17         12-2pm
  • Wednesday, September 21     6:30-8:30pm
  • Thursday, September 29         6:30-8:30pm
  • Sunday, October 2                   1-3pm

You must fill out and submit a Volunteer/Docent Application and complete a required criminal background check (no cost) at least 2 weeks prior to your desired Orientation Session. Criminal background checks must be completed on zoo grounds and are available in the Zoo Gift Shop.  Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you by phone or email to confirm your application and orientation date.

All new Zoo volunteers must attend ONE volunteer orientation session. All sessions are held at Columbian Park Zoo and will last approximately 90 minutes. An orientation session is required in order to volunteer

Are you an energetic and committed individual who is looking to share your interest in animals with others? Volunteer Educators assist the Education Department by assisting with various learning experiences including animal encounters, group presentations and patron interactions throughout the zoo. We are looking for individuals who can make at least a year-long commitment.
