Lafayette Police 1999 Hot Wheels D.A.R.E Collector's Series
In 1999 the Lafayette Police Department D.A.R.E. program was contacted by Matchbox, Inc. about a D.A.R.E. collector's series of Matchbox cars. This series from Matchbox highlighted D.A.R.E. programs from across the United States and the vehicles used by D.A.R.E. officers. Lafayette Police Department's (LPD) Barry Richard has been the department's D.A.R.E. officer since 1996 and his Ford Crown Victoria was chosen by Matchbox for this series of replica cars. View pictures of the collectible, the D.A.R.E. officer, and the D.A.R.E. car.
Collectors interested in obtaining this increasingly rare LPD vehicle will find the pursuit challenging and limited to the occasional eBay auction or specialized collector's sites online.
The LPD maintains the original 1995 Ford Crown Victoria replicated by Matchbox. D.A.R.E. now uses a Ford Explorer for daily operations, but the Crown Victoria is displayed at various times of the year for special D.A.R.E. programs and promotions.
