Lafayette has used this tool of economic development for about 20 years and has established numerous TIF districts throughout the city for the purpose of economic development.
Purpose The TIF District is a tool that allows cities to "capture" the increase in property tax revenue that may result from an improvement. The additional revenue is then dedicated to financing the improvement, or for other development activities within the district.
