Behind-the-scenes yet critically important to our residents’ health and the environment, the work of the Water Pollution Control Department includes:
  • Providing public education 
  • Monitoring local industries
  • Collecting wastewater at an interceptor sewer, fed by 473 miles of combined sanitary and storm sewers, 25 lift stations and two storm stations 
  • Operating two wastewater treatment plants with an average daily flow of 18.4 million gallons a day (peak capacity is 52 million gallons a day)
  • Maintaining all equipment and facilities
  • Controlling pollution in our waterways
