Honor Guard

LPD Honor Guard

Representation

The Lafayette Police Department Honor Guard provides a formal representation of the Lafayette Police Department (LPD) at funerals and public events. The Honor Guard participates in the funerals of retired Lafayette Police Officers, as well as fallen Police Officers from other agencies across the state. The Honor Guard also participates in law enforcement memorials and special events.

Bagpipes

The tradition of bagpipes associated with police and fire funerals goes back over 150 years in the United States. The LPD is fortunate to have its own bagpiper, Sergeant John Yestrebsky.

Officer William Meluch

Officer William Meluch joined the Lafayette Police Department on October 17th, 2007.  He loved serving his community and his fellow officers, and devoted his life to that calling.  Officer Meluch took great pride in his role as a member of the Lafayette Police Honor Guard.

We lost Officer Meluch to cancer on December 25th, 2018.  While he may be gone he will never be forgotten.  Lafayette Police Three-Six-Six you are Ten-Forty Two for the final time.
