Lafayette Police Swear in Three New Officers and Pin a New Sergeant

   
LAFAYETTE, INDIANA – March 12th, 2021 – 


Friday March 12th, 2021 at 10:00am, Honorable Mayor Tony Roswarski will be swearing in three new police officers and pinning a newly promoted sergeant for the Lafayette Police Department. The ceremony will be taking place in the City Council Chambers located at City Hall.


Sergeant Steven Prothero is an 18-year veteran for the Lafayette Police Department.  He has served a majority of his career in the patrol division as a patrol officer.  Sergeant Prothero was involved in the Spanish Translation Program, was a Field Training Officer, a member of the Mobile Field Force, and part of the Crisis Intervention Team.  Sergeant Prothero’s new assignment for the police department is a shift commander on the Red Nights Patrol shift.


Steven Ceballos-Olivas, 22, is originally from Bellflower California, but relocated to Frankfort Indiana when he was 10 years old.  In 2020, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from IUPUI, and also graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.  Ceballos-Olivas is a former part time police officer for IUPUI.


Benjamin Frye, 21, is originally from Broadalbin New York, but relocated to West Lafayette in 2020.  He graduated Broadalbin-Perth High School in 2017, then enlisted in the New York National Guard in 2018.  Frye is a Combat Medic who currently holds the rank of Private.  Frye comes from a family that served in the United States Military.  


Breighton Phillips, 23, is originally from Danville Indiana, but recently relocated to the Lafayette area.  He attended Catlin High School where he was actively involved in athletics and student council.  In 2019 he graduated from Manchester University with a Bachelor’s in Business Management.
