[ARCHIVED] Domestic Battery Arrest and IED Located in Apartment


At approximately 1:06 PM the Lafayette Police Department responded to 3608 Chauncey Court East for a domestic battery complaint. During the investigation officers obtained a statement and gathered evidence from the reported female victim, who said had been battered during the incident. The alleged suspect, Armando Guzman Jr. [42 yrs old], also lived in the apartment. Guzman had fled the apartment prior to officers arriving.

Later the same day, at approximately 3:22 PM, the Lafayette Police Department received information from witnesses, stating the male had returned to the apartment. Officers responded back to 3608 Chauncey Court East. Officers located the alleged battery suspect, Armando A. Guzman Jr. Guzman Jr. was arrested him for Domestic Battery, Confinement, and Intimidation.

Police obtained a search warrant for the apartment. During a search of the residence officers located an unexploded Improvised Explosive Device [IED] in the apartment. The surrounding apartment residences were evacuated for safety precautions. The Tippecanoe County Explosive Ordinance Disposal team responded to the scene and rendered the IED safe. The IED did not detonate and there were no injuries.

The investigation is on-going. Information obtained in this case has been provided to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
