[ARCHIVED] Columbian Park Zoo preparing for annual "Zoo Run Run"

The Friends of Columbian Park Zoo is preparing for the 14th Annual “Zoo Run Run” 5K run/walk.

The even will begin at 8:00 a.m. on July 16th at the Columbian Park Zoo. The Friends of Columbian Park Zoo is also issuing a last call for volunteers. Race day activities begin at 6:30 a.m. and are expected to conclude by 11:00 a.m.

The Zoo Run Run is a family-friendly run/walk to support the Friends of Columbian Park Zoo, a non-profit organization committed to raising funds to support the Columbian Park Zoo.

“Fundraisers like the ‘Zoo Run Run’ help us to continue to provide excellent animal care, educational and interactive experiences and updated facilities for our Zoo residents and visitors,” said Robyn Jakes, President of the Friends of Columbian Park Zoo Board.

The race route, which begins at the Zoo, will require closures of intersections south of Scott Street and between Columbian Park and Earl Avenue between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Online registration ends at 12:00 p.m. July 15th, but people can register in person from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Zoo’s front entrance on July 15th and on race day morning from 6:30 a.m. until 7:15 a.m. Pre-registration is $25 and day-of-race registration is $35. Only the first 500 individuals at pre-registration will receive a bag. Volunteers will receive free breakfast, a t-shirt and a bag with coupons and other goodies as well.
