On December 7th, at approximately 8:00am, officers and detectives with the Lafayette Police Department, West Lafayette Police Department, and investigators with the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit executed a search warrant in the 900-block of N 10th St in reference to an investigation into the distribution of child pornography. The investigation began with information provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and culminated with the execution of the search warrant.
During the investigation, one person was subsequently arrested and identified as Travis James Barrett (age 36 and of Lafayette, IN). The suspect was charged with Distribution of Child Pornography (Level 4 Felony), Possession of Child Pornography (Level 5 Felony), and Possession of Marijuana (Level 6 Felony).
This investigation is still ongoing. Anybody with further information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Lafayette Police Department (807-1200) or the We-Tip Hotline (800-78-CRIME).
The fact a person has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
