The Riverside Promenade is a component of the Two Cities, One River Lafayette- West Lafayette Urban Riverfront Master Plan. The Riverside Promenade planning and design was funded by a North Central Health Services planning grant with WREC. The cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette along with Tippecanoe County provided the local match. The planning grant project completed schematic design and engineering work for the entire Central Reach of the urban riverfront and took the design all of the way through to construction and bid documents for the Riverside Promenade. The Promenade will attach to the new MARQ development and serve as a community gathering place to highlight the Wabash River and connect the cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette by way of the Pedestrian Bridge. The Riverside Promenade is expected to be complete in late Fall 2017.
The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation (WREC) and community partners have completed an update of the Central Reach section of the Two Cities, One River Master Plan. This update focuses on moving the Central Reach from the conceptual level detailed in the Two Cities, One River Master Plan to schematic design and engineering. This moves the Central Reach closer to development. This project was driven by community development pressures stemming from the City of West Lafayette-Purdue State Street Master Planning project and the Old National Bank regional banking center mixed use development at the corner of 2nd and Columbia streets - The Marq.
