On February 9th, at approximately 8:05am, the Lafayette Police Department was called to N 9th St and Salem St in reference to a report of a vehicle crash. The vehicles involved were a Chevy flat-bed pickup truck and a Lafayette School Corporation school bus. The truck was traveling north on 9th St, approaching Salem St. The school bus, occupied by the driver and 33 kids, was traveling westbound on Salem St. The truck entered the intersection on red and struck the side of the school bus.
Eight students were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with complaints of pain. None of the injuries were believed to be serious. LSC dispatched another bus to transport the remaining 25 students to Miller Elementary. A utility pole was also damaged during the crash.
The driver of the pickup was cited for disregarding the stoplight.
