Northend Community Center Slated for Completion in Mid 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 16, 2017 – Lafayette, IN-

After years of planning and cooperation with a number of local not-for-profit organizations, Faith Community Development Corporation is announcing the construction of a collaborative community center on Elmwood Avenue in Lafayette’s north end. The Northend Community Center will open in summer, 2018. The City of Lafayette and United Way of Greater Lafayette are proud to be able to partner with Faith CDC to provide this vital community resource that will transform and revitalize the historic neighborhoods of Lafayette's north end.

The community center complex, located directly west of Market Square, will welcome nine collaborative partners including; Bauer Family Resources, The Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, Hanna Community Center, Car Works, Family Promise of Greater Lafayette, Reclaimed Hope, Big Brother Big Sisters of Greater Lafayette, and Faith Community Development Corporation. The Northend Community Center will be a place where urban youth, teens, singles, families, seniors, and veterans will find resources and relationships to facilitate healthy life choices. In addition to the on-site partners, non-profit agencies and other community groups will be welcome to make occasional use of the facilities.

“We are grateful for each partner agency that is becoming part of the Northend Community Center,” noted Pastor Steve Viars of Faith Ministries. “Together, we will be able to more effectively address and meet community needs in the north end of Lafayette.”

In addition to dedicated space for each of our partner agencies, the Northend Community Center will house a large gymnasium, indoor multi-use pool, fitness center, indoor walking track, health and wellness facilities, a co-working and engagement studio, childcare facilities, community rooms, soccer fields, and an outdoor rooftop hockey rink. The center is also excited to welcome the Flour Mill Bakery and Café restaurant. The total square footage of the main facility and outlying buildings on the six-acre property is more than 114,000 square feet.
