Tippecanoe County Traffic Safety Partnership

DUI Task Force

Third Quarter of 2017

Sergeant Will Carpenter of the Lafayette Police Department announced today that the Tippecanoe County Traffic Safety Partnership, consisting of the West Lafayette Police Department, Purdue Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department worked 78 hours of the federally funded DUI enforcement patrols from April through June.  During these patrols, officers stopped 115 vehicles and made thirteen arrests, including eight for driving under the influence, one underage alcohol offense, and four arrests for other traffic and criminal misdemeanors.  The task force also issued 123 tickets and warnings for various traffic-related offenses.

Throughout the rest of the fiscal 2017 year, additional federally funded overtime patrols will be utilized to crack down on impaired drivers. Agencies that participate in this effort are funded by grants through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).
