Police Arrest Rape Suspect

On Monday, August 27th, the Lafayette Police Department responded to a battery complaint in the 10 block of Bordeaux Boulevard.  Police arrived and the victim, a 54-year-old female, reported she was sexually assaulted by a family member.  Police secured the scene and collected evidence.


Police gathered statements and case facts.  Police arrested 34-year-old Jose Martin Garcia-Aburto for Rape and Criminal Confinement.  Garcia-Aburto was transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail.  The case has been turned over to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutors Office to review for charges.

The fact a person has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
