Lafayette Police Investigating Homicide
On November 18, 2018 at 4:32am the Lafayette Police Department responded to a call of several shots fired at 3117 Rubble Way apartment H. Upon arrival officers located one victim of a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 18 year old Jontae Billups-Brooks. During the initial investigation officers also learned of a second shooting victim who had left the scene and was located in the 3400 block of Coventry Lane. The second victim was identified as Keyonte Billups-Brooks and he was transported by ambulance to Indiana University Hospital. Keyonte was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital. Keyonte & Jontae are brothers. Jontae Billups-Brooks was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Lafayette Police Department Detectives Division is currently investigating this case as a homicide and a person of interest in this case has been identified. We are asking for the public’s help in locating 20 year old Alexander Garcia-Johnson. Garcia-Johnson is a white male, 5’ 11” tall and approximately 125lbs. He was last seen wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and white tennis shoes. Garcia-Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous.
The investigation is ongoing and we do not believe that this was a random act of violence.
