Police Investigating False Report of a Robbery
On December 17th, 2018, William Fife Jr (56) reported to the Lafayette Police Department that he had been robbed while in the parking lot of 350 South Liquors. Fife reported that 3 males battered him with a baseball bat and then stole $25,000, and a rented SUV. Fife reported that he woke up in a wooded lot on the east side of Lafayette with no knowledge of how he ended up there.
Detectives with the Lafayette Police department investigated the report of the robbery and found that Fife’s claim of a robbery was unfounded. Surveillance footage, bank records, and rental car records revealed that Fife’s reported robbery did not occur.
This case has been turned over to the Tippecanoe Prosecutors Office for possible charges.
