[ARCHIVED] Lafayette Fire Department keeps busy with Fireworks

LAFAYETTE, IN – 7/5/2022 – The Lafayette Fire Department responded to 10 incidents involving fireworks on the Fourth of July Holiday.

3 structures sustained fire damage due to fireworks, displacing 10 persons. Additional fires were reported to grass and dumpsters as a result of discharged fireworks.

The Lafayette Fire Department reminds the community that while fireworks might be enjoyable, they can cause great harm to persons and property.

Discharged fireworks are recommended to be soaked in a container of water for a minimum of 12 hours prior to discarding into the trash or dumpsters.

Discharging fireworks onto property that you do not have permission to do so is not permitted under city ordinance or Indiana law. Discharging of fireworks is permitted tonight through Saturday July 9th from the hours of 5pm to sunset.

The Lafayette Fire Department strongly encourages community members take additional care due to the extremely dry conditions present.
