The Lafayette Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 9:09pm. The shooting transpired in the 400-block of Cherokee Ave, near S 5th St. Two victims arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds and an infant had minor injuries from broken glass.
Lafayette Police detectives were able to identify the suspect in the shooting as Hirman Eugene Jackson (31 years old and from East Chicago, IN). A warrant was issued for his arrest on a preliminary charge of Battery with a Deadly Weapon until further investigation could take place. The United States Marshals Service assisted with locating and arresting Hirman Jackson on LPD’s warrant on March 1st. He was transported to the Lake County Jail until he could be transferred to the Tippecanoe County Jail.
Since the suspect’s arrest by the Marshals, additional charges have been added in this case, which are as follows:
- Five counts of Attempted Murder (Level 1 felonies)
- Two counts of Aggravated Battery (Level 3 felonies)
- Four counts of Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 felonies)
- One count of Possession of a Handgun by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 felony)
- One count of Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 felony)
- One count of Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 felony)
