The Lafayette Tree Advisory Committee is on the search for the biggest trees in Tippecanoe County. These are trees that have withstood the trials of time. It is our hope this search will increase awareness of how valuable trees are to the ecosystem. We hope also, that the search will encourage citizens to become more involved with preserving trees in the urban forest as well as wooded areas in Tippecanoe County. According to the National Arbor Day Foundation, a medium to large sized tree over a 50 year period will generate $31,250 worth of oxygen, provide $62,000 worth of air pollution control, and recycle $37,500 worth of water.
The Tippecanoe County Big Tree Register follows the Indiana DNR's Big Tree Register guidelines. Only trees native to Indiana will be considered for the register. The Big Tree Register is being maintained by the Lafayette Parks Department Urban Forestry Division. To enter a tree for submission in the registry, please download an application and send it to:
