Training
The Training division of the Lafayette Fire Department is located at 2070 South 500 East, just North of the SIA automotive plant in Lafayette. This is where we provide training for our department's members and also for many other outside agencies. We have 1 full time training coordinator, Assistant Chief Grant Davidson, and he is assisted by many on-shift certified trainers.
Training Center
The Training Center was opened in the spring of 2003. It consists of a 1,000 square foot classroom that can be divided into 2 rooms, a kitchen, and complete men's and women's restroom facilities. The 55 foot training tower can be used for rappelling and includes a burn room, a search and rescue floor, and a maze on the 3rd floor with standpipe connections on each floor.
Swede Survival Systems Flashover Chamber
Purchased in July of 2003, the Swede Survival Systems Flashover Chamber is a valuable training tool for recognizing the signs of a flashover. There is also a pump testing facility with a 10 thousand gallon underground tank.
Top Training Sites
The Training Center is now listed as 1 of 10 state training sites for Indiana. For many years, it has been a goal for the Lafayette Fire Department to develop our training center into a local and regional training site, and now many firefighters and outside agencies are benefiting from it.
