Purpose
The Redevelopment Commission is responsible for the rehabilitation and development of land and property within the City of Lafayette for a use that is in the best social and economic interest of the City and its residents using Tax Increment Financing (TIF).
Per Indiana Code 36-7-14-11, the Commission shall:
- Investigate, study, and survey areas needing redevelopment within the corporate boundaries of the City.
- Investigate, study, determine, and, to the extent possible, combat the causes of areas needing redevelopment.
- Promote the use of land in the manner that best serves the interests of the City and its residents.
- Cooperate with the departments and agencies of other governmental and public entities in the manner that best serves the purposes of this Commission.
- Make findings and reports on their activities under this section, and keep those reports open to inspection by the public at the offices of the department.
- Select and acquire the areas needing redevelopment to be redeveloped under this chapter.
- Replan and dispose of the areas needing redevelopment in the manner that best serves the social and economic interests of the City and its residents.
